Before You Smoke is a free chore tracker for small households, made by Cole Troester. Only the people in your household can see your household. Nothing is sold, shared or used for ads.
What Before stores
- Your Google account basics. Your name, email address and profile photo link, from Google sign-in. Your name and photo are shown to your household.
- Your household. Its name, time zone, and who's in it.
- Your chores and activity. Each chore's name, emoji and schedule, and who completed or skipped it and when.
- Your reminder settings. Your reminder hour, your wording choice, and a notification token for each device where you turned notifications on.
- On your device only: your theme and a few display preferences, kept in your browser.
Who can see it
Only members of your household. The database's security rules enforce this on the server. Invite links work once and expire after 7 days. There are no ads, no analytics and no third-party trackers.
Where it lives
Before runs on Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore in the US, Hosting and Cloud Messaging). Google processes this data on Before's behalf to run the service. A scheduled job sends daily reminders and tidies up old history.
How long it's kept
Activity older than 90 days is deleted automatically, except each chore's most recent completion. Notification tokens that stop working are deleted. Everything else stays until you remove it.
Your choices
- Leave a household or remove a member from the Household tab.
- Delete your household from the Household tab. Its chores and history are deleted for everyone.
- Turn off notifications in your phone's settings.
- To delete your account or ask about your data, contact Cole through coletroester.com.
Children
Before isn't directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too.
